RABBIT HAY GUIDES · SINGAPORE

Your rabbit’s hay does not have to be just one type

Two grass hays can share the same feeder. The useful question is what gets eaten.

Yes—you can mix suitable grass hays for an adult rabbit. Timothy with orchard, or timothy with oat, gives a choice of textures. Introduce an unfamiliar hay gradually; once both are familiar, you can offer them together.

Start with the hay they already eat

  1. Pick one partner. Use another plain grass hay. Leave pellets, vegetables and the usual feeding place unchanged while introducing it.
  2. Begin with a little. Add a small amount to familiar hay, leaving plenty of the familiar type available. Increase gradually if eating and droppings stay normal.
  3. Loosen the handful. Make both hays easy to reach and pull out. Refresh the supply and remove soiled hay.

There is no special 50:50 recipe to aim for here. Start from what your rabbit eats comfortably. For a prescribed diet, follow the vet’s plan.

Let the leftovers guide the next handful

  • Both hays are eaten: keep the simple mix.
  • One is repeatedly left: offer them side by side to see the preference more clearly; buy less of the unwanted hay.
  • Both are left: check portions, freshness and access before inventing a more elaborate blend.

Discard wet or soiled leftovers. Keep unlimited clean grass hay available rather than waiting for every stem to disappear.
