RABBIT HAY GUIDES · SINGAPORE
Storing hay in Singapore: should the container be airtight?
Check the packaging instructions before choosing a container.
For Oxbow bagged hay, use the original bag or a ventilated container. Its storage guidance calls for airflow. For other brands, follow the pack’s instructions before sealing hay in an airtight tub.
Oxbow’s storage guidance ↗1. Match the container to the packaging instructions
Keeping Oxbow hay in its bag? Close the resealable top as intended and leave the ventilation holes clear. For a separate container, Oxbow recommends adding airflow holes.
For another brand, check the label or ask the manufacturer. Keep the original packaging or photograph the batch details.

At each refill: look for moisture or mould and check the smell. Discard damp, mouldy or musty hay. For a faulty bag, photograph it and contact the seller.

2. Find a dry place for the whole supply
Use a dry indoor shelf, off the floor and away from direct sunlight. Keep it clear of a steaming kettle, cooking area or splashing sink. Choose a place where you can easily check and use the bag.
UK Pet Food recommends storage off the ground and away from moisture (PDF).
3. Buy for your own rate of use
- Date the opened bag. Note when you finish it, including hay you discard from the feeder.
- Use older stock first. Follow the pack’s best-before date and storage instructions.
- Reorder before running out. Allow for delivery time while keeping opened bags manageable.
This gives you a practical buying interval for your household. Compare Singapore pack sizes and prices once you know how quickly you use a bag.
